Standing in the Gap #1 : A Call to Intercede and Make a Difference
Standing In The Gap #1
A call to intercede and make a diference
Exodus 32:30-32 (NIV) “The next day Moses said to the people, ‘You have committed a great sin. But now I will go up to the Lord; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.’ So Moses went back to the Lord and said, ‘Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold. But now, please forgive their sin—but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written.'”
In Exodus 32:30-32, we witness an extraordinary act of intercession by Moses. The Israelites had sinned greatly by worshipping the golden calf, but Moses didn’t turn away from them. Instead, he stood in the gap between a holy God and a sinful people, offering to sacrifice his own life for their sake. This profound act of selflessness teaches us about the power of intercessory prayer and the depth of love we should have for others. Like Moses, we too can intercede for those who have gone astray, praying for God’s mercy and forgiveness to be poured out upon them.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, as we reflect on Moses’ intercession for the Israelites, we are humbled by his selflessness and love for his people. Teach us to have hearts that are willing to stand in the gap for those who have strayed from your path. Grant us the strength to intercede for our loved ones, friends, and even those we don’t know, that they may find your mercy and grace. Help us to be instruments of your forgiveness and reconciliation, just as Moses was. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
